Message From Superintendent Isler Regarding Calamity Day Make up

Dear Parents and Guardians:

The Windham Exempted Village Schools have made a final decision on how we will handle the excess calamity days that were necessary this year due to the exceptional winter weather. I appreciate your patience as we took the time to investigate these options.

Based on legislation passed by the Ohio Senate and Ohio House, we have three options:

  1. Add two days to the calendar

  2. Use Blizzard Bags to make up the days

  3. Extend school days in 30 minute increments to make up the lost instruction time

Our district has chosen to implement the Blizzard Bags to make up for the lost instructional time. I do understand that this choice may not be the ideal choice for all, but it is the best choice for the district based on multiple factors.

More information will be distributed through individual classrooms on the exact implementation of the Blizzard Bags in the next few weeks.

One question I have been asked is why we would not take advantage of the additional four days that were allowed by law.   The law is slightly misleading in that Districts must make up at least four days by using the options listed above before they can use the four additional days afforded by recent legislation.

Again I appreciate your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Gregg Isler
